Your Questions Answered

What are your qualifications and credentials?

I hold a BSc(Hons) Counselling Psychology degree from the University of Wolverhampton, which I achieved in 2009. All of my EFT and Matrix Reimprinting qualifications are awarded by EFTMRA Academy, with me qualifying in EFT Levels 1 & 2 in 2019, and qualifying as a Level 3 (Advanced) EFT practitioner in 2024. I trained in Matrix Reimprinting in 2021 and again in 2025. I qualified as a SMART Recovery Facilitator in 2011, and as a SMART Family & Friends Facilitator in 2023. I am fully insured via Holistic Insurance Services and have a current clear enhanced DBS certificate.

Which therapeutic approach do you use with clients?

I explain more about this in the How I Work section. However in short, I use Person-Centred Counselling, Advanced Emotional Freedom Technique, Matrix Reimprinting, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy, amongst the many other skills I've learnt throughout my career so far. I tailor my approach to each individual client, with their best outcome as my absolute top priority.

Does EFT actually work?

I understand your scepticism, I really do. EFT can seem a little "woo woo" when people first encounter it. However there are Increasingly more studies being published regarding its efficacy as the science behind it is more greatly understood. You don't have to take my word for it though; if you'd like to read some evidence-based studies, just search for (Associate Professor and registered Clinical and Health Psychologist with 30+ years of worldwide EFT research) Dr Peta Stapleton's work, who has conducted clinical studies into EFT for several different focus-areas with startlingly positive results. Or even better, try it for yourself. Ultimately, the very best "proof" is experiencing the changes within yourself which can - and do - occur as a result of EFT and Matrix Reimprinting.

Where are you located and do you only work in-person?

My therapy room is located in Wellington, Shropshire for in-person appointments, but I also work with clients online from anywhere in the world. During EFT you are tapping on yourself, so working virtually doesn't effect the outcome of the sessions. The most important things to ensure if you'd like to work with me online is that you have a stable internet connection, that whatever device you are using can be hands-free (you'll need your hands to tap!), and that you have an appropriate space to connect from where you won't be interrupted and where you're able to speak openly and confidentially.

Is your therapy room accessible if I have a mobility issue?

My therapy room is reached via two flights of stairs, and may therefore not be accessible for clients with mobility issues. Online sessions are however an alternative accessible option. In line with the Equality Act 2010, I am committed to ensuring that my services are accessible for all those who want/require them, and I aim to provide a respectful, inclusive environment free from discrimination. If you require any reasonable adjustments, please contact me to discuss your needs. These may include, but not be limited to, communication preferences, physical access needs for in-person sessions, and/or extra support for online sessions. I will do all I can to accomodate your needs.

How long are appointments and how many will I need?

Appointments last for 90 minutes and it's advisable to have an absolute minimum of 5, with 6 to 10 being recommended so that the core beliefs and issues driving the behaviour you wish to change can be thoroughly examined. You don't have to book or pay for all your sessions at once, although I do offer discounts for block bookings. It's impossible to say how many appointments will be needed for the changes to become evident as we won't know until we begin what the core issues are. Some clients do continue to work with me longer term, as once the initial presenting problem has been resolved they're keen to keep peeling back the layers and working on other things. However, either way, I will never keep seeing a client for longer than is needed or helpful and it is often clear when a natural conclusion to our work together has been reached.

Do I have to have a specific behaviour I want to change? What if I'm unsure exactly what my issue is?

Many people find their way to me when they recognise that a particular behaviour has become unmanageable for them and they're unable - despite their very best efforts - to make or sustain positive changes on their own. However some people come to me with a general desire for their life to change, without initially understanding the source of their discontent. Irrespective of the point at which we start, I can help you to release the stuck emotions, and uncover and change the unhelpful beliefs, which are preventing you from living the happy and healthy life you deserve.

When and how frequently are appointments held?

I recognise that people are busy and I therefore always try to be as flexible as possible, whilst also ensuring that my own schedule retains a healthy balance. I try not to work weekends, but do occasionally make some exceptions to this. I also offer evening appointments wherever possible. We can discuss this further during the initial consultation when I will do all I can to accommodate your availability. At times I have to implement a waiting list for new clients, but I will always advise you of this and let you know how long you'll likely be waiting to see me. Once we begin working together, weekly or fortnightly appointments are recommended.

Will you be tapping on me?

Generally, you will always be tapping on yourself, however there may be occasions when, if you’re attending in person, I ask to tap on you. I will always get your consent before I tap on you, and I will absolutely respect your decision if you don't want me to. If you consent, I will only ever tap of your finger points, head and face (never your body).

Will I have to re-experience the painful emotions attached to my memories?

I understand your concern, which is a natural consideration for anyone about to embark on addressing their problems, irrespective of the modality you choose. One of the many wonderful things about the techniques I use is that clients don't have to experience re-traumatisation as a result of exploring past events and memories. I facilitate gentle exploration which allows you to safely uncover the unconscious beliefs driving your behaviour, whilst simultaneously reducing the emotional intensity of the attached memories. Although it isn't uncommon for clients to sometimes become tearful in sessions, this is most often part of releasing emotions that have been stuck for a long time, rather than feeling the pain of the emotion again. Many clients talk about how they feel lighter, freer, and relieved to have released the emotion through tears, which are often short-lived. Should you become distressed at any time during the session, then continuing to tap is the best way to bring the emotional intensity down. This is the most likely time I will ask to tap on you if we're physically in the same room, but if we're working together online then I will simply ask you to continue tapping on yourself as I guide you through your experience. I will never leave you in a state of distress.

How will I know if it's working?

During EFT sessions, people release energy/emotions in different ways. Common signs of energetic release include yawning, burping, eyes watering, deep sighing, laughing, and crying. Some people experience these signs more than others. There's no right or wrong, and it's not an indication of how effective the session is. The greatest indicator that our work together is helping you is when you notice that you're behaving differently, particularly in respect of the behaviour you're wanting to change. Again, it can take a varying amount of time for changes to be seen, but clients are often surprised when they realise they're responding to stimulus that would have previously triggered them in a more controlled and easeful manner.

What if I need to speak to you between sessions?

Should you find yourself experiencing a significant event between sessions, or have a question which can't wait, then I will make myself available briefly. I'm also happy to receive short updates on your progress via WhatsApp or text. However, I am unable to enter into extensive conversations in between appointments. It's also important to remember that once you know how to use EFT, you can use it as a self-help tool at any time to regulate your own emotions. Self-tapping is something I absolutely encourage you to practice and use, as it will empower you to self-manage your behaviour and emotions both now and in the future.

What if I have a different question which isn't answered here?

I can answer any further questions you might have during an initial consultation, or you can contact me via my contact form, or by emailing or phoning me directly. I look forward to speaking with you.
